Professional Hypnosis Therapist Evaluation & Graduation System
Achievement of clinical competence, Professional ethics, and Therapeutic integrity
Hypnosis Indonesia Training Institute stipulates that student graduation is not merely the completion of study hours , but rather the achievement of clinical competence, professional ethics, and therapeutic integrity that can be internationally accounted for. Therefore, the evaluation and assessment system implemented is not administrative, not loose, and not solely based on attendance, but rather is competency-based assessment .
This evaluation model is designed with reference to and is aligned with the principles of professional evaluation used by international hypnosis and health organizations, including:
- International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT)
- National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH)
- General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC)
- American Hypnosis Association (AHA)
However, Hypnosis Indonesia not just copying, but rather integrate, adapt and raise the standards to suit the clinical, cultural, legal and social responsibility context in Indonesia, without compromising its international quality.
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE INDONESIAN HYPNOSIS EVALUATION SYSTEM
Hypnosis Indonesia evaluation system is built on five main principles which is the foundation of the entire assessment process:
- PRINCIPLE OF DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCE
Graduation is only given to participants who able to demonstrate hypnosis and hypnotherapy skills in real terms, not just understanding the theory verbally. This principle is in line with the standards IACT dan NGH which emphasizes that a hypnotherapist must be able to:
- Conduct client intake in a professional manner
- Carry out basic clinical assessments
- Perform induction, deepening, and termination safely
- Handling client resistance
- Maintain client psychological safety
Maintain client psychological safety only able to answer theory but unable to carry out clinical practice stated incompetent.
- ETHICAL PRINCIPLES & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Referring to GHSC and AHA, Hypnosis Indonesia confirms that competence without ethics is dangerous. Therefore, the evaluation not only assesses technical capabilities, but also:
- Understanding competency limits
- Awareness of contraindications
- Ability to refer clients
- Compliance with the code of ethics
- Legal awareness and client safety
Participants who demonstrate manipulative, arrogant, belittling client behavior, or misuse of hypnosis, was immediately declared a failure, even though it is technically capable.
- PRINCIPLES OF CLINICAL READINESS
Hypnosis Indonesia not pass participants as “therapists” if they do not have minimum clinical readiness, that is:
- Personal emotional stability
- Personal emotional stability
- Ability to deal with emotional clients
- Do not use hypnosis for personal ego needs
This principle goes beyond many training institutions that focus solely on technique, and aligns with the approach clinical orientation in modern international organizations.
- PRINCIPLES OF MEASURABLE AND TRANSPARENT STANDARDS
Each aspect of the evaluation has:
- Written criteria
- Measurable indicators
- The value is clear
- Objective assessment rubric
There is no judgment based on likes/dislikes, seniority, or personal relationships. This is an adoption of the principle assessment transparency from international standards of professional education.
- ZERO COMPROMISE PRINCIPLE TOWARDS CLIENT SAFETY
One fatal error in practice (e.g. forcing a traumatized client, ignoring contraindications, or making dangerous suggestions) immediately canceled the graduation, without negotiation.
This principle is in line with safety standards on AHA dan GHSC.
GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF THE EVALUATION SYSTEM
The Indonesian Hypnosis evaluation system consists of six main components which are mutually integrated:
- Academic Theoretical Evaluation
- Evaluasi Keterampilan Praktik (Skill-Based Assessment)
- Evaluation of Professional Attitude & Ethics
- Integrated Clinical Skills Evaluation
- Real Case Study Evaluation
- Professional Readiness Evaluation & Certification
Each component must pass, non-exchangeable, and cannot be compensated for with the value of other components.
Graduation Position in Hypnosis Indonesia
In Hypnosis Indonesia graduation is not a right, but rather trust.
By declaring someone to have passed, the institution morally and professionally states that:
“This person is qualified to handle the psychological conditions of other human beings.”
Therefore, the graduation standards are set stricter than many similar training institutions, and consciously accept the consequences that not all participants will pass.
ACADEMIC THEORETICAL EVALUATION & CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE COMPETENCY TEST OF HYPNOSIS THERAPISTS
Academic theoretical evaluation in Indonesian Hypnosis system not just a test of memorizing concepts, but rather is measurement of depth of clinical understanding, analytical ability, and maturity of therapeutic thinking students. At this stage, participants are tested to see whether they truly understand the material. Why a technique is used, When techniques applied, when it should not be applied, as well as what are the clinical risks.
This standard consciously goes beyond conventional exam models that only assess definitions, terms, or technical steps. The theoretical evaluation of Hypnosis Indonesia is designed to ensure that every participant who passes have a secure cognitive foundation for real clinical practice.
A. PURPOSE OF ACADEMIC THEORETICAL EVALUATION
Academic theoretical evaluation has five main, inseparable objectives:
- Ensuring a correct conceptual understanding of hypnosis and hypnotherapy
- Assess clinical and analytical thinking skills
- Identifying potentially dangerous misconceptions
- Assess participant readiness to make therapeutic decisions
- Ensuring client safety through a thorough understanding of theory
Participants who master the technique without understanding the theory considered high risk and not worthy of graduation, because the practice of hypnosis without a strong conceptual foundation has the potential to cause psychological damage to clients.
B. SCOPE OF MATERIAL EVALUATED
B. SCOPE OF EVALUATED MATERIALS the entire core knowledge domain of clinical hypnosis, which are grouped into eight main clusters.
- Scientific Foundations of Hypnosis
Participants must understand hypnosis as a psychological and neuropsychological phenomenon, not as a myth or mere suggestion. The material evaluated includes:
- Modern psychology-based definition of hypnosis
- The difference between classical hypnosis, directive hypnosis, and clinical hypnosis
- The position of hypnosis in the spectrum of human consciousness
- The role of attention, suggestibility, and expectations
The role of attention, suggestibility, and expectations without using magical, mystical, or pseudo-scientific narratives. The use of unscientific terms is an indicator academic ineligibility.
- STRUCTURE OF CONSCIOUSNESS & SUBCONSCIOUS MIND
The evaluation assesses participants' understanding of:
- The difference between conscious, subconscious, and automatic processes
- Protective function of the subconscious mind
- Psychological resistance mechanisms
- The relationship between suggestion and belief systems
Participants must be able to explain why clients can reject suggestions, as well as how the clinical hypnosis approach works , as well as how the clinical hypnosis approach works, not against it.
- BRAIN WAVES & HYPNOTIC STATE
This material is not assessed as frequency memorization, but rather as functional understanding. Participants are evaluated on:
- The relationship between brain waves and mental states
- The difference between relaxation conditions, light hypnosis, and deep hypnosis
- Myths surrounding “sleep” in hypnosis
- Clinical implications of hypnotic depth
Clinical implications of hypnotic depth Clinical implications of hypnotic depth and will lose significant value.
- HYPNOTIC RESPONSE & CLIENT VARIATION
Evaluation assesses understanding of that not all clients react the same to hypnosis. The material includes:
- Variation of suggestibility
- Psychological factors that influence hypnotic response
- The role of trust, anxiety, and self-control
- Common mistakes in blaming the client
Participants must be able to explain that failure of hypnotic response is the therapist's responsibility, not the client's fault.
- ETHICS, LIMITATIONS, AND CONTRAINDICATIONS
This is one of the most crucial parts. The evaluation includes:
- Principle of informed consent
- Limits of competence of hypnosis therapists
- Conditions that require referral
- Contraindications to hypnosis
Participants who are unable to explain when to reject a client stated not yet feasible for clinical practice.
- CLINICAL HYPNOSIS VS ENTERTAINMENT HYPNOSIS
Participants are tested to clearly differentiate between:
- Aims of clinical hypnosis
- Risk of misuse of technique
- Differences in ethical responsibilities
- Long-term psychological impact
The blurred understanding between clinical and entertainment hypnosis is an indicator professional immaturity.
- PROBLEM FORMULATION & THERAPEUTIC HYPOTHESIS
Participants are evaluated on their abilities:
- Identifying the client's core problems
- Distinguishing symptoms and root causes
- Distinguishing symptoms and root causes
- Avoiding personal assumptions
The evaluation in this section uses case-based questions, not a definition question.
- PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
Material includes:
- Potential for abreaction
- Client emotional distress
- Basic grounding techniques
- When to stop the session
Participants who consider abreaction as “a normal thing to be allowed” will failed evaluation.
C. FORMS AND METHODS OF THEORETICAL EVALUATION
Theoretical evaluation is not carried out using a single method, but rather through combination of approaches to ensure objectivity and depth of assessment.
- ANALYTICAL ESSAY WRITTEN EXAM
Participants are required to answer essay questions that require:
- Conceptual explanation
- Case analysis
- Professional argumentation
- Ethical considerations
Short, shallow, or slogan-like answers did not get adequate marks.
- WRITTEN CASE STUDY
Participants are given a client scenario and asked to:
- Identify the problem
- Determining whether hypnosis is worth using
- Developing an initial approach
- Explain risks and limitations
Assessment focuses on clinical logic, not free creativity.
- STRUCTURED ORAL EXAM
Oral examinations are conducted to assess:
- Clarity of thinking
- Consistency of understanding
- Ability to explain to lay clients
- Emotional stability when tested
Nervous participants are welcome, but participants who... arrogant, defensive, or dismissive of questions will lose ethical points.
D. THEORETICAL EVALUATION ASSESSMENT RUBRIC
Assessment is carried out using an objective rubric with the following components:
| Assessed Aspects | Weight |
| Conceptual Accuracy | 25% |
| Depth of Analysis | 20% |
| Clinical Logic | 20% |
| Ethical Awareness | 20% |
| Communication Clarity | 15% |
Minimum passing score: 75/100
However, value below 70 on ethical or safety aspects is automatically declared a failure, even though the total value is sufficient.
E. CRITERIA FOR PASSING AND FAILING THE THEORETICAL EVALUATION
It will be declared PASS if the participant:
- Understanding the scientific concept of hypnosis
- Able to think clinically and ethically
- Demonstrates awareness of competency limits
- Don't have any dangerous misconceptions
It will be declared NOT PASS if the participant:
- Using mystical or pseudo-scientific narratives
- Blaming the client for therapy failure
- Ignore contraindications
- Not understanding the psychological risks
Participants who do not pass must repeat learning, not just a re-examination.
EVALUATION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE SKILL BASED ASSESSMENT & DIRECT OBSERVATION OF THERAPIST COMPETENCY
Clinical practice evaluation is the core of Hypnosis Indonesia graduation system. At this stage, all of the participants' theoretical knowledge is tested in real conditions or clinical simulations that closely approximate the reality of professional practice. The main principle in this evaluation is one:
A participant is only declared to have passed if he is safe, competent, and worthy of being trusted to handle other human beings.
Hypnosis Indonesia confirmed that there is no theory-based graduation only, and there is no compromise on client safety. Clinical practice evaluations are designed to answer the following fundamental questions:
- Are participants able to practice hypnosis safely?
- Are participants able to manage real client dynamics?
- Are participants able to maintain ethics under the pressure of practice?
- Are participants able to make appropriate clinical decisions?
A. PHILOSOPHY OF CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION
Evaluation of clinical practice in Hypnosis Indonesia is based on competency-based clinical assessment, not on stage performance, beauty of language, or personal style.
The three main principles underlying this evaluation are:
- Safety First Principle
The client's psychological safety is above the success of the technique. - Process Over Performance
What is assessed is not whether the technique is "cool or not", but rather correct clinical process. - Ethical Consistency
Ethics must be consistent even when participants encounter difficult, resistant, or emotional clients.
Participants who demonstrate high technical ability but disregard safety or ethics was immediately declared not to have passed, without considering other aspects.
B. SCOPE OF CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION
Clinical practice evaluations include the entire flow of the hypnotherapy session, from beginning to end, without any part being skipped.
- OPENING & CLINICAL RAPPORT
At this stage, participants are assessed on their abilities:
- Greet clients professionally
- Explaining the roles of therapist and client
- Avoiding exaggerated claims
- Build a sense of security and trust
Indicators of failure at this stage include:
- Using suggestive manipulative language
- Giving the promise of healing
- Displaying a superior or patronizing attitude
Participants must demonstrate a stable, calm, and ethical therapeutic presence.
- CLINICAL INTAKE & DATA MINING
Participants are evaluated on their ability to carry out systematic intake, including:
- Digging into the client's main complaints
- Identify the duration and intensity of the problem
- Digging into triggers and patterns
- Identifying relevant psychological history
Assessment focuses on:
- Accuracy of questions
- Active listening skills
- Do not direct the client's answer
- Do not make diagnoses outside of competence
Participants who immediately “jump to conclusions” without adequate data will lose big points.
- READINESS ASSESSMENT & CONTRAINDICATIONS
This is safety critical point. Participants are assessed on their abilities:
- Assess the client's mental readiness
- Identifying psychological red flags
- Determining whether hypnosis is worth pursuing
- Postpone or decline sessions if necessary
Immediate failure indicators:
- Ignoring signs of severe dissociation
- Forcing hypnosis on an unstable client
- Not understanding the limits of one's own competence
Participant more appreciated when declining a session ethically rather than forcing practices.
- EXPLANATION OF THE PROCESS & INFORMED CONSENT
Participants must be able to:
- Explaining the process of hypnosis realistically
- Dispelling client myths and fears
- Answer client questions honestly
- Obtain the client's informed consent
The assessment focuses on:
- Honesty
- Transparency
- Easy to understand language
Exaggerated or manipulative claims immediately invalidate the practical graduation.
- IMPLEMENTATION OF HYPNOSIS INDUCTION
Induction is judged not on the type of technique, but on:
- Suitability to client conditions
- Suggestion language security
- Tempo and voice stability
- Responsiveness to clients
Participants are not required to use any particular technique, however must adapt the approach to the client.
Fatal errors include:
- Ignoring client signs of discomfort
- Forcing deepening
- Using potentially harmful suggestions
- DEEPENING & CLIENT RESPONSE MANAGEMENT
Participants are evaluated on their abilities:
- Manage the depth of hypnosis
- Maintain therapeutic control
- Handle resistance safely
- Not chasing depth for ego's sake
Participants who pursue “deep trance” without a clear clinical goal will miss out on significant value.
- THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION
At this stage, participants are assessed in:
- Intervention accuracy
- Alignment with client goals
- Clarity of suggestion
- Does not violate ethical boundaries
Interventions are assessed based on:
- Clinical logic
- Alignment with intake
- Psychological safety
Participant not required to solve client problems, but must demonstrate correct and safe processes.
- TERMINATION & GROUNDING
Termination is a mandatory part that is often overlooked. Participants must be able to:
- Returning the client to full consciousness
- Maintain client's emotional stability
- Provides simple grounding
- Not leave clients in a fragile state
Mistakes at this stage include:
- Hasty termination
- Ignoring the client's emotional state
- No reorientation
- POST-SESSION BRIEFING
Participants are assessed on their abilities:
- Explain what has been done
- Convey realistic expectations
- Provide post-session guidance
- Does not create dependency
C. CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION METHODS
Evaluation of clinical practice is carried out using the following methods:
- Direct Observation by Assessor
The assessor observes the entire process without intervention, using a standardized observation sheet.
- Structured Client Simulation
Participants face simulated clients with specific scenarios to assess competency consistency.
- Video Review (if needed)
For further evaluation, sessions are recorded and reviewed objectively.
D. Clinical Practice Assessment Rubric

EVALUATION OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS OF THERAPIST ATTITUDE, PERSONAL INTEGRITY, AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MATURITY
In clinical hypnosis practice, technical competence without ethics is a serious risk. Therefore, Hypnosis Indonesia places an evaluation of professional ethics and psychological maturity parallel or even higher compared to technical skills. This is in line with the international principles applied by global professional organizations of hypnosis and mental health, where client safety, therapist integrity, and professional boundaries is the main foundation of practice.
Hypnosis Indonesia confirmed that a person can be technically proficient but still not be worthy of graduating if they do not demonstrate adequate professionalism, emotional maturity and personal integrity.
